Bryanston Conference launches Woza Sidle project

Woza Sidle Project in action

This item was written in faith and hope by Brenda Roberts – the Founder and Leader of The Woza Sidle project in Diepsloot Township north of Johannesburg, which falls under the Society Saint Vincent de Paul, Bryanston Conference.

What a fantastic Saturday we had on 18 October – we have good news to share with you all!

On this day we fed 420 children, and it was fantastic to witness the manifestation of caring and love towards them. It doesn’t matter how little you think you are doing, everything adds to the purpose of providing a special meal to these children. God’s love is merciful and compassionate. He is looking after them and we all are His helpers.

Quoting Saint Teresa of Avila: “Christ has no body now, but yours. No hands, no feet on earth, but yours. Yours are the eyes through which Christ looks compassion into the world. Yours are the feet with which Christ walks to do good. Yours are the hands with which Christ blesses the world.” Saint Teresa of Avila, pray for us.

We celebrate the wonderful donation of oranges, bananas and spinach we received. Most children love bananas, and these little ones in Diepsloot were no exception. The bananas provided a nourishing snack for them while they queued for their food. Oranges are also perfect in this hot weather – especially for the little babies who enjoyed the sweet juice, it was so refreshing for them. Watching them eat fruit with so much eagerness was heartwarming.

Pictured below is our wonderful serving table. The donated spinach was a nice addition to the meal; it was cooked by the gogos supporting the Saint Vincent de Paul Society’s kitchen. We have been promised more spinach every Wednesday and Saturday.

On behalf of the Society Saint Vincent de Paul, thank you for your constant support. Thank you for saying yes to the calling of help, thank you for the compassion and the love you show every week to these children.

Please pray for these children, specially for those who live alone, and for those children heading a household looking after their little siblings. Please pray that they chose Jesus above any reality they face. Please pray for their wellbeing and for the love of God to shine upon them, everyday, at any moment of the day. Prayer is the most powerful tool we have to praise our Lord and to overcome any obstacles.

Waiting patiently for their food

The children wait patiently for their turn to receive a plate of nourishing food.
