It was a great start to Mandela Month when Kimberley Central Council – in conjunction with the South African Police Service and SASSA officials – visited the impoverished communities of Boesap and Riverton on the outskirts of Kimberley.
People collecting their social grants were treated to a meal of vetkoek, and left with canned goods; girls and women were very grateful to receive the gift of sanitary pads – an often overlooked basic necessity which is beyond the reach of those living on a small income.
Well done to all concerned, for leading the way to Mandela Day!
