She thought it was a hoax

Needy families

One of the recipients of a R500 Christmas shopping voucher, organised by our Howick Conference late last year, literally could not believe her eyes. Receiving a gift like this, from a complete stranger, was just beyond her experience. With tears in her eyes, she begged a family member to phone us to make sure that it was not a hoax.

It’s a humbling experience to witness first hand how much a food voucher means to someone who has nothing. It must truly have seemed like a miracle, arriving just in time to provide good food and perhaps a small treat for the children.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to distribute one hundred of these vouchers to needy families identified through local school administrators. Most are the victim of job losses caused by lockdown and business closures.

A big thank you also to Woolworths, which continues to supply us with sell-by date food on a weekly basis for the children at St Joseph’s pre-primary. This is an ongoing initiative that is a life saver for these little ones.
