No matter how bad things get, there are those determined and resilient individuals who continue to strive to make a life for themselves and their families. Angela is one such individuals.
After lockdown restrictions eased, she was determined to get back on her feet. But Angela had literally nothing to start her off. She approached our Howick Conference for a request, not for a handout, but for a hand up. Her plan was to start off small, selling fruit and vegetables to passersby. We helped her secure the initial fresh produce from the Pietermaritzburg market.
Soon, Angela’s profits had accumulated to the point where she was ready to branch out into chicken farming. We again helped her, by providing transport to National Chick in Camperdown where she took delivery of 50 day old chicks. When the birds were about ten weeks old, we helped her buy more. Angela has now settled into a routine of selling fully grown chickens at R100 each, and using the profits to renew her stock and buy chicken feed.
We are in awe of self made entrepreneurs like Angela. Against all odds, they manage to overcome the hardships life throws at them and come out on top.
