Bennie stirs up the soup in Yeoville

Soup kitchen in Yeoville

During the week, our driver Benjamin Snyman (Bennie) delivers fresh fruit, vegetables and other food itms to the soup kitchen at SSVP in Yeoville. Then, every Saturday, members turn these ingredients into a wholesome meal for around 200 needy and displaced people. These volunteers have to get up incredibly early. Because preparation – peeling enough vegetables to feed this many – takes time!

On Saturday 30 April, Bennie swopped his delivery truck for the kitchen. Wielding a large wooden spoon, he got to work stirring the 33 litre pots of soup and pap. Members of the community were amused to find him in the kitchen. Especially the little children.

Grateful thanks to the parishioners of St Charles. Your ongoing generous support helps us reach out to this needy community, and assure people of at least one good meal a week.
