The Kimberley Central Council (KCC) covers a huge area, including St Paul’s in Taung, which is 150km away. Altogether, KCC has nine conferences, the oldest of which is St Mary’s. Aggregated on 10 June 1895, it has been in existence for a good 124 years!

KCC Good Works

A huge part of our work is handing out food hampers to families in need. Non-perishable food items for the hampers are donated bi annually by schools in the area. This year, we’ve also handed out donated school uniforms at Tlameleng School for children with physical and sight disabilities, and the Greenpoint Primary School. Toiletries and nappies were donated to the Roto creche in Barkley West.

Mandela Day

Our focus this year was the Boetsap Community. A task team led by SAPS Kimberley and several other oganisations carried out a needs assessment to identify how we could meet some of the challenges faced by the community.

Retreat

On 1 May 2019, we held a retreat at Holy Trinity in Roodepan, led by Father Marcel Gatshuya, the KCC Spiritual Advisor. The theme for the retreat was “Being in Jesus’ School”. Key messages were:

  • Listen to His word
  • Improve your life
  • Jesus is the light of my life
  • Constant communication with the poor
  • Follow the example of Jesus

Members were left spiritually enriched and inspired. Every morning we must hear God’s word saying to us, “Go and make a difference. Touch someone’s life. Encourage one’s mind and inspire one’s soul.”
