Get behind the SSVP Team – bringing hope to people who are suffering and in despair

Hope is the only thing greater than fear

Right now – as Lockdown and job losses bring more people face to face with extreme poverty – we must work harder to keep hope alive. When you have no idea where your next meal will come from, it’s easy to give into despair and crippling fear.

As Christians, we are committed to ensuring that no one in need is ever turned away empty handed. Members of the St Vincent de Paul Society have been working tirelessly to pack parcels of basic food and other essentials … and distribute blankets to protect people from winter’s freezing misery.

But we could do more … much more … if others are willing to join in too.

Donate now

Your donation of R140 could buy two warm blankets for someone who has to sleep on the city’s icy pavement because he or she has no home.

A contribution of R500 would fill a food parcel with enough rice, cooking oil, mealie meal, canned fish, sugar, tea, soap and toilet paper to last a family of four an entire week.

Any amount – donated online now – makes a difference.

If hope is the only thing greater than fear, then love is the only thing stronger than despair. Please show your love for someone who will wake up tomorrow filled with fear … not knowing where their next meal will come from or who to turn to for help.

Let yours be the generous hand that lifts them from the depths of despair.

Heart of our work

Our core work involves alleviating the worst human suffering in areas of abject poverty – where families live in homes made of cardboard or thin plastic … where unemployment and malnutrition is rife … and where parents are dying and leaving children to care for one another.

We help the hungry, the homeless, the sick, vulnerable children and destitute aged.

And because most of the work is done by volunteers, almost every cent you donate goes directly to helping those in need.
