Fluffy new blankets for everyone who's cold and suffering.

Winter is on the way

Have you noticed the darker mornings and nip in the air? Shops full of tracksuits, cosy socks and slippers, puffy jackets and soft blankets? Adverts for soups, stews and other hearty meals to keep you warm and your tummy full of nutritious ingredients to help fight off winter colds and flu?

You may have already added extra blankets to your bed and dusted off the heater. Maybe winter – with its cosy clothes, hearty food and opportunities to cuddle into fleecy blankets – is your favourite time of year?

But imagine not having a warm meal to keep hunger pains away? Never mind clothes on your back to keep you warm. Your toes ache due to the cold. And life on the streets becomes a miserable battle for survival.

Right now, there are hundreds of people, South Africans, going to bed hungry and cold. They may not even make the night. Unless we do something to help them.

That’s where you come in.

Contributions from people like you make it possible for the St Vincent de Paul Society to run soup kitchens, where those who are going hungry can fill their stomachs with a cup of nourishing, warm soup, and a hunk of bread to dip.

With winter fast approaching, we’d also like to send those in need home with a warm blanket, socks and shoes on their feet and a jacket or jersey on their back.

It doesn’t seem much to ask – to be warm and given a meal. But for someone who has nothing, it could possibly even be the difference between life and death.

If we don’t help, who will? Please support us now by making your donation online.

We can’t turn a blind eye to those suffering – and we know Jesus wouldn’t have either.

Thank you for caring – may God bless you.

Heart of our work

Our core work involves alleviating the worst human suffering in areas of abject poverty – where families live in homes made of cardboard or thin plastic … where unemployment and malnutrition is rife … and where parents are dying and leaving children to care for one another.

We help the hungry, the homeless, the sick, vulnerable children and destitute aged.

And because most of the work is done by volunteers, almost every cent you donate goes directly to helping those in need.
