On Sunday 14 November, to commemorate the 5th Annual World Day of the Poor, SSVP challenged members across South Africa to collect 30 000 loaves of bread for distribution to the poor and hungry.
For Vincentians, every day is the day of the poor, as we strive to uplift people and communities that are suffering and in need.
Conferences around the country responded to the call to action. At St. Patrick’s, La Rochelle, around 200 poor and hungry people – women, children and men received a meal of chicken stew, pap, coleslaw salad, a slice of cake, a packet of biscuits and a bottle of cold drink.
Other conferences, like Our Lady of Peace in Roodepoort handed out hundreds of loaves of bread and prepared sandwiches to the homeless, as did the Eersterust Conference in Gauteng North. Well done to all on this drive mark World Day of the Poor.
