World Day of the Poor 2024 – SSVP in action

Our members’ commitment to making a difference on World Day of the Poor, Sunday 17 November 2024, speaks for itself. Here are a selection of photographs from around the country.

At Sts Peter & Paul Parish Church in Newcastle, SSVP members, CWL members, Mens group, Women’s group, Youth, Baby Jesus sodality and Sacred Heart sodality all joined hands to prepare and distribute sandwiches to needy and poor people at various targeted points.

SSVP St Pius X Newcastle prepared sandwiches and took to the streets and the taxi rank to distribute sandwiches to the hungry.

St Martin De Porres conference literally produced bucket loads of salads to go with servings of delicious stew cooked up in a massive pot. Over 150 meals were handed out for lunch.

Our Mpumalanga conferences were also busy. Matsulu BL Engelmar Conference distributed blankets and non perishable food stuff to the needy, while Kanyamazane Holy Cross Conference described the day as ‘well spent’ preparing lunches for the less fortunate members of their community.

 

Orange River Central Council shared this video of their efforts to reach out to the needy on World Day of the Poor.

Namaqualand conferences busy preparing sandwiches and receiving the blessing from Fr Andile of Sacred Heart Nababeep, before distributing sandwiches and loaves of bread.

Germiston celebrated World Day of the Poor with a special event for elderly members of the community. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal, followed by dancing and singing.
