On 17 August 2025, the Soweto District of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) joyfully welcomed 15 new youth members at Christ the King Parish in Soweto.
At a time when many young people are often unfairly associated with crime, gangs, or a lack of direction, these teenagers are proving that there is another path — one rooted in faith, compassion, and service. By choosing to join the SSVP, they are committing themselves to walking in the footsteps of St Vincent de Paul, reaching out to those who are poor, vulnerable, and often forgotten.
The new Vincentians bring fresh energy and passion to the Soweto District, and their presence is a reminder that the Vincentian spirit is alive and well among the next generation. Their willingness to dedicate time and effort to uplifting others is both a gift to the Society and a beacon of hope to the wider community.
We are so proud of these young people. Their decision to serve shows that compassion is alive in our youth, and that they are ready to make a positive difference in Soweto and beyond.
As they begin their journey as Vincentians, the Society warmly welcomes them into its global family of faith-filled volunteers. Together, they embody the message that young people can — and do — choose lives of purpose, guided by love for God and neighbour.
