Members of the Society of St Vincent de Paul outdid themselves on Mandela Day. On Friday 18 July, our various conferences throughout the country were hard at work, inspired by the words of Nelson Mandela:
“It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.”
As Vincentians, Mandela’s words resonate strongly with us. We are the ‘hands’ of Jesus – reaching out to bring comfort and relief those who need it most … poor people who are hungry … homeless … without warm clothing … sick and suffering.
On Mandela Day, over 800 men women and children received warm nourishing meals, bread and fruit packs. Piles of blankets were distributed to the sick and elderly, while 120 kids received toys and party packs – rare treats for little ones whose parents struggle to make ends meet.
But ours were not the only hands that gave. Your donations made it possible for us to stock up with soup ingredients, bread, treats and blankets. Thank you for playing your part in our Mandela Day activities – and for being willing to share your blessings with those who are less fortunate. Together we can create a better world for all.
