World Day of the Poor – Vincentians turn out in force to uplift poorer neighbours

World Day of the Poor

On World Day of the Poor – 19 November – members of St Vincent de Paul Society South Gauteng collected 1000 loaves of bread which they turned into sandwiches and handed out to people in need.

The scripture for the day spoke about using God’s given talent to serve others; this was seen in each and every SSVP member, who rolled up their sleeves to make sandwiches, prepare and serve home cooked meals, and hand out clothing collected over the past few weeks.

In Bez Valley, 200 beneficiaries, including children, were treated to a Christmas lunch with dessert and food parcels to take away afterwards. 30 lunch packs were prepared and distributed to homeless people in the area.

Thank you to the many generous donors who contributed to the success of the day.
